$1000 Craiglist beater Miata or $500 Craigslist beater Volvo?
2000 Volvo s70 145,000 miles needs an inspection and
needs an
alternator.
1993 Mazda Miata 170,000 miles needs an inspection because it is an Ohio car.
Both cars have body damage as seen in the photos.

Miata is always the answer, especially in this case.

Miata, not even close.
That’s like the choice between accidentally losing $100 and being burgled.

If the volvo was an earlier wagon, probably that, but as-is the miata for sure (as long as it’s still got some sort of underbody left)
HFV has no HFV. But somehow has 2 motorcycles

Miata.
The body damage on that Volvo is just too much. If it was in better condition, totally worth it.
I got mine for $750 back in late August, sans body damage

$750 that seems like a steal!

It was. Much higher miles though, bought it with 298k on the clock and just ticked over 308k.

It’s been dead reliable. Very cheap to repair after my
deer strike
last month too.

Didn’t we just get confirmation last night that Volvos are vastly better than Miatas ?

Honestly the Volvo was the one tempting me to call and buy it, but everyone is voting Miata.

I think it really depends what you want it for. I imagine the Volvo would be much more practical, while the Miata would be better for Miata’ y things.

Never trust an Ohio car to pass inspection, what state are you in?

Volvo, that Miata is a guaranteed rustbucket. At least you’ll be able to recoup more of the Volvo’s purchase with scrapping.

I’m looking to buy a car right now. If those were my only choices, I would go with the Volvo... mainly for practical reasons.
I need a car with more space and more doors than a Miata has.

Can I look at the undersides of both cars before choosing?

Option 3: a less-bruised P80 Volvo for $1,000. The $500 Volvo looks like a headache, and the Miata will be R U S T Y.

In real life you would need to. The CL ads didn’t have any underneath or interior pictures.
